It’s been a busy week getting to know each other, checking out instruments, and learning new music!
Intermediate, Advanced, and Jazz Band students will be getting the music for our first concert very soon, if they have not already. Students should make sure their music is organized in their band binders with their name on each piece. They will be most successful if they take a few minutes each day to play what we worked on in class each day at home. Specific practice assignments and playing tests will be coming soon! Beginning Brass and Woodwind students are starting on instruments this week! Please make sure your student is bringing their instrument to school everyday and back home to practice every evening. Students will have specific things to practice almost every day. We’ll be starting on just mouthpieces/headjoints (I call them our mini-instruments!), so you’ll be hearing some buzzy/squeaky sounds to start! Advanced Band will be performing with the Niwot High School Marching Band in the Longmont Halloween parade on October 29. This will be a great opportunity for our 8th graders to get to know what band is like at the high school level and start making new band friends! More details to come! Jazz Band students should consider taking advantage of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA) Longmont small groups. This is a great opportunity for students to work with professional jazz musicians and other jazz students from all over Longmont.
