Congratulations to the Spartan Band Students! Congratulations and thank you to all band students for a wonderful year of music-making! Our Spring Concert was a great success! We wish our 8th graders the best of luck on their future endeavors and can’t wait to keep the party going next year with our 6th and 7th graders! If you took photos at the concert that you would like to share, feel free to upload them here! Instrument Return If you have an instrument rented from Sunset Middle School, please return it by Friday, May 17th. Summer instrument rentals are available, so please have your student let Ms. Cort know if they would like to keep their instrument over the summer. A reminder that instrument rentals are $50 for the summer ($25 for reduced lunch families and $12.50 for free lunch families). Loveland Lasertag Field Trip (7th & 8th grade only) Permission slips for the Loveland Lasertag Field Trip have been handed out! Just in case the form didn’t make it home, here is a digital version! You can also register and pay for your student here. Please feel free to email Ms. Cort with any questions. Summer Opportunity: Longmont Youth Band and Strings Mini Camp This camp is welcome to students who have at least one year of playing experience. Students will spend three days putting together a program of fun and exciting concert music for band or orchestra! This camp is taught by Mrs. Carrie Borja (Band Director at Westview Middle School) and Mr. Jonathan West (Orchestra Director at Creighton Middle School). In addition to preparing music in the band or string ensemble, students will also get the opportunity to play in a combined "Symphony Orchestra" piece. Activities include music rehearsals, sectionals, and camp games (no intense physical activity). The cost for this 3-Day Mini Camp is $50 total. Dates: June 28, 29, and 30 The camp schedule is as follows: Friday June 28th-5:30pm to 8:00pm Saturday June 29th-1:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday June 20th-1:00pm to 5:00pm, concert begins at 6pm All camp events will take place at UCC Longmont (across the street from LHS). Location: Gym Note: The Jazz and Advanced Band concert will feature a presentation of awards for our graduating 8th grade students. 7th grade jazz band students may leave after the jazz band is finished performing. Concert Set Up Crew Ms. Cort is looking for students to help set up for the concert after school before the concert! Set up will begin after school and last until about 3:30pm. Post-Concert Celebrations! We will be taking time in class to celebrate this year’s achievements and our wonderful concerts on May 9th and 10th. Please feel free to bring snacks to share while our students watch the concert video and enjoy their success from a great school year! Congratulations, Jazz Band The Spartan Jazz Band performed last Friday at the Skyline Jazz Festival and received Superior ratings from the judges! We are so proud of them! The rehearsal will be on May 1st from 2:45-4pm so that the woodwind, brass & percussion classes can combine and practice together. This rehearsal is mandatory and I expect all students to be there so that we can have a successful concert! Skyline Jazz Festival The Sunset Jazz Band will be performing at the Skyline Jazz Festival on Friday, April 26th. Jazz Band parents - please be sure to return the permission slip as soon as possible! Niwot High School Musical Ms. Cort is directing the pit orchestra for Niwot High School’s production of Shrek the Musical, April 11th-13th and 18th-20th. It will be a great show and Ms. Cort would love to see some Sunset students there! Tickets can be purchased here - tickets for Saturday, April 13th are half-priced for kids under 12!
